Information About the Program   [Back to Top]

Fellow status is earned through active participation in both the profession and the organization. The steps are simple in procedure. A potential candidate is nominated by an existing Fellow. The nomination and nominee CV are circulated to the Awards and Honors Committee for review and determination. Activities of varying types as indicated in a nominees curriculum vitae and nominating letter are assessed against a standard list of points for various profession and College related activities. Once approved, a congratulatory Letter is forwarded to the candidate and to their sponsor.

The hooding ceremony occurs at the annual convention. At that time each recipient receives a plaque, medallion and lapel pin honoring their achievements. After the ceremony these individuals are permitted to include the letters, F.A.O.C.A. after their degree.

  5. The Board of Governors will review Awards & Honors Committee’s recommendation and have final approval.
  6. Once approved, a congratulatory letter is forwarded to the candidate and to their sponsor. This process is completed by mid-June, which allows both sponsor and nominee to make arrangements to attend the upcoming annual convention.
  7. The hooding ceremony occurs at the annual convention. At that time each recipient receives a plaque, medallion and lapel pin honoring their achievements. After the ceremony these individuals are permitted to include the letters, FAOCA after their degree.
  8. Tips:
    1. Very important to have a current Curriculum Vitae.
    2. Emphasis is placed on having a significant amount of points earned by serving the College.
    3. Nominating Letter should be substantive in nature, which allows those reviewing it to get a clear and in-depth picture of the nominee.
    4. While not a requirement, other Fellow’s or general letters of support for a candidate are acceptable. It is strongly encouraged to make these a part of the original Packet/Submission.
  9. Any questions, please contact the Awards & Honors Committee Chair and/or the AOCA office.
