The Scholarly Activities sub-committee was formerly named the Scientific Essay sub-committee and was a sub-committee of the Awards and Honors committee. It is now a sub-committee of the Professional Education committee whose chair person is Dr. Jennifer Hargrave, D.O., F.A.O.C.A.
The duties of the Scholarly Activities sub-committee include:
- Reviewing abstracts of 2 categories
- Complex case abstracts
- Scientific Investigation abstracts
- Scoring the abstracts
- Already established point system
- Average score of 3 in all categories gets presented
- Acting as moderators for the finished poster presentations at the annual Convention
- Moderators will have several posters assigned
- Moderators keep the presentations moving in a timely manner
- Moderators field questions to the presenter
- Moderators have questions prepared for the presenters (if none from audience)
- Moderators judge posters in the 2 categories with already existing point scoring system
- First place in each category receives $500, Second place $250
- Acting as moderators will earn points towards becoming a fellow of the college
- If more moderators needed, program directors can assist moderating
